In the 19th century, lots and lots of people played an instrument or sung. In Western 'high society' in the past, the ability to play an instrument/sing was considered a standard 'accomplishment' for educated women and men alike. Kids these days, however, are far more likely to be found downloading their music on to an MP3 player (for example, an Ipod) than they are playing it. Rather than 'the many making music for the many', today we see a select group of people making music which everyone else just burns, downloads, podcasts and otherwise accesses. What will happen if this trend continues? Will people keep making music? Or will we all just become 'audience'?

This timeline explores the transformation of currency. Throughout the history of man currencies have never quite stayed the same. From the trading of resources such salt, precious metals, and cocoa, humans have consistently used different forms of measuring value. What has remained in constant however, has been the need to to have systems of abstraction that are able to reflect the complexity within the context of that time. The future, no different than the past, will see transformations in how a species abstracts value in new ways.
